When specialized procedures are needed, coordinated care between providers helps ensure patients receive the most effective treatment and seamless follow-up care.
What Is Co-Management?
Co-management is a collaborative model of care in which an optometrist and an ophthalmologist work together to manage different stages of a patient’s treatment. In many cases, the ophthalmologist performs the surgical procedure while the optometrist provides pre-operative evaluations and post-operative care. This partnership allows each provider to focus on their area of expertise while ensuring the patient receives seamless, continuous care. For patients, co-management often means receiving specialized treatment from a surgeon while continuing their ongoing eye care with the doctor they already know and trust.
