OPTOMETRIST for pediatric and adult patients

  • Perform a full ocular health assessment with refraction.
  • Fit soft and gas permeable contact lenses.
  • Comprehensive pediatric (infants, toddlers and adolescents) ocular evaluations with cycloplegic refractions and management of pediatric eye disorders including amblyopia and strabismus.
  • Evaluate, treat and manage anterior segment disorders (conjunctivitis, uveitis, foreign body removal, corneal ulcers, eyelid infections, dry eye disease) with prescribed therapeutic medications and binocular vision disorders (convergence insufficiency, esophoria, exophoria, strabismus, amblyopia, ocular muscle palsy) with patching or prisms.
  • Evaluate and manage posterior segment disorders (glaucoma, macular degeneration, posterior vitreous detachments, retinal tears).
  • Specialty contact lens fitting for Keratoconus, Pellucid Marginal Degeneration and other corneal irregularities.
  • Pre and post operative care for LASIK and cataract surgeries.
  • Proper usage and documentation of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) codes.
  • Use of diagnostic equipment (prisms, biomicroscope, fundus camera, perimeters, anterior segment camera, scanning laser ophthalmoscope, corneal topographer and autorefractor).
  • Perform gonioscopy, punctul occlusion, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy, applanation tonometry, sensorimotor exams, dilating and irrigating the punctum.
  • Low vision evaluation and prescribing low vision devices.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctor of Optometry degree
  • 3 years experience as optometrist, optometrist researcher or related job
  • Registered Optometrist with Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent Certification by State of California Board of Optometry
  • 2 of 3 years qualifying experience must include:
    1. treatment of pediatric (infants, toddlers, adolescents) amblyopia and strabismus
    2. fitting specialty contact lens for keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration and other corneal irregularities
    3. proper usage and documentation of Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases codes
    4. use of binocular indirect ophthalmoscope and gonioscopy equipment
